Trip to Wayanad

Last weekend ‘God’s own country’ invited us to have a trip to Wayanad, Kerala.

Wayanad is really an incredible place which borders with a large Reserve
Forest area. We were fortunate enough to see a couple of wild elephants
while crossing the border. The first thing we noticed that everyone
was extremely friendly and welcoming, despite the fact that Wayanad is
definitely a very small town and the population is generally quite poor.
Throughout our whole trip we didn’t feel much problem to communicate
with local people, thanks to the local administration for providing
basic education to everyone.

We entered in this district of Kerala through ‘Sultan Bathari’. We
started with an hour long hotel hunting program, finally ended up in a
resort named Song Bird residency. On our first day, we paid a visit to a
waterfalls and few other local tourist spots. It was a nice experience
overall. We found a ‘Toddy’ shop while coming back to the resort, we
stopped for a while and decided to taste the unique country liquor of
Kerala. We stayed our first night in a jungle hut inside the resort,
looking out in the jungle and feeling the sound of silence and breathing
of darkness, spiced up with ‘Toddy Touch’ .

On our second day we moved out of the resort and booked a hotel in the
town. We found a really classy restaurant just beside our hotel,
delicacy and aristocracy was reflecting through every corner of that
place. After finishing our lunch, we started traveling for side seeing.
A large tea-garden, Chembra peak(highest peak in Kerala) , one phantom
shaped rock , a natural cave and Asia’s largest man made dam was on the
list. I was lucky enough to get some chances for rock climbing in the
cave area. We experienced amazing scenic beauties in the dam. High hills
with a silent river and lovely greenery was touched up with mind blowing
colors of sunset in the horizon, something I’ll never forget !

Third day we started with a trek to Meanmurthi falls, one forest
department personnel was guiding us through slippery rocks and deep
jungle. It was a great adventure through out and the beauty and
massiveness of the waterfalls just made us speechless. We took a shower
in the cold water and truly it was a heavenly feeling.

I think I could really write about this all day long if I had the
chance, as there is just so much cool stuff to tell! But hopefully
this gives you an idea of the sort of thing we got up to and gives you
a taste of Wayanad.

Here is the link to my facebook album, contains some photographs of this trip.

I would definitely recommend to anyone to visit Wayanad as it
really was a completely amazing and unforgettable place!
